Winter Robins: New Christmas Cards, Prints & Original Watercolours

Inspired by winter, British birdlife and the sentimental connection so many of us have with robins, my new seasonal collection brings together four original watercolour paintings: Winter Companions, Winter Wonder, Winter Awakening and Winter Perch. Each artwork is available as a Christmas card or an A4 print, while the original watercolour paintings themselves are also available for those looking for something truly unique.

Why Robins for Christmas?

Over the past year I've found myself painting more and more birds, and one question seems to come up repeatedly:

"Do you have any robin Christmas cards?"

Eventually, I thought: why don't I?

Robins already sit naturally within the kind of wildlife artwork I enjoy creating, and they have such a strong connection with winter and Christmas here in Britain that a collection centred around them made perfect sense.

There's also a much more personal reason.

Robins have always felt sentimental to me. They remind me of loved ones who are no longer here, and they have an uncanny habit of appearing when I'm outside in the garden. I'm sure many people have their own associations with robins, whether that's memories of someone special, winter walks, gardens or simply the comfort of seeing that familiar flash of red amongst bare branches.

That emotional connection became an important part of these paintings.

Creating a Traditional Winter Feel

Although I'm calling these Christmas cards, I didn't want to create something filled with Santa Claus, baubles or the usual commercial Christmas imagery.

I wanted them to feel more timeless.

The collection is really about winter: cold air, crisp light, bright white snow and those quiet moments when wildlife becomes particularly noticeable against the landscape.

I deliberately kept the paintings traditional in style, allowing the robins and their surroundings to take centre stage. Cool winter light and snowy whites help create that seasonal atmosphere, while the warm red breast of each robin provides a natural point of colour.

The result is a collection that feels festive without being overly Christmas-themed, meaning the artwork can still be appreciated throughout the winter months.

Meet the Four Winter Robin Paintings

The collection contains four original watercolour paintings:

Winter Companions

Winter Companions original watercolour painting.

Winter Companions

A celebration of companionship during the colder months, bringing together the warmth of the robin against a distinctly wintry setting. Original Winter Companions artwork here.

Winter Wonder

Winter Wonder original watercolour painting.

Winter Wonder

A piece inspired by that almost magical feeling that arrives when the landscape is transformed by winter. Original Winter Wonder artwork here.

Winter Awakening

Winter Awakening original watercolour painting.

Winter Awakening

A quieter moment capturing wildlife amongst the cool light and freshness of a winter scene. Original Winter Awakening artwork here.

Winter Perch

Winter Perch original watercolour painting.

Winter Perch

A simple, traditional bird portrait celebrating the familiar sight of a robin resting amongst its winter surroundings. Original Winter Perch artwork available here.

Each painting was created first and foremost as an original artwork. From those originals came the Christmas cards and prints, allowing the same imagery to be enjoyed in several different ways.

Send the Artwork as a Christmas Card

The four designs are available as premium A5 Christmas cards, each supplied with a white envelope.

They're blank inside, which is something I particularly like because it gives you plenty of space to write your own message rather than being restricted by a pre-printed greeting.

You can choose an individual design for £3.50, or buy the complete set of four for £12.

Because the imagery is winter-inspired rather than heavily commercial, I think they work beautifully for anyone who enjoys traditional Christmas cards, British wildlife or nature-inspired artwork.

Keep the Artwork as an A4 Print

Winter Robins Prints

Winter Robins - A4 Prints available.

If you like one of the designs too much to send it away, each of the four paintings is also available as an A4 art print for £25.

The prints allow the artwork to become part of your own winter décor rather than disappearing into the post.

They would work particularly well in a kitchen, hallway, living room or cosy corner during the colder months, either displayed individually or combined as a small seasonal collection.

They also make thoughtful Christmas gifts for bird lovers, wildlife enthusiasts and anyone who has their own special connection with robins.

Or Own the Original Watercolour

For something unique, the original watercolour paintings used to create the cards and prints are also available.

There's something particularly special about owning an original. It's the actual piece I painted—the individual washes, brush marks and decisions made while creating the artwork are all there on the paper.

And because each original is one of a kind, once it finds a home, there won't be another identical painting.

For someone who loves robins, traditional wildlife art or original watercolour painting, one of these could make a very personal Christmas gift—or simply become a piece you enjoy bringing out every winter.

More Than Just Christmas Cards

What I like most about this collection is that it doesn't feel restricted to Christmas Day.

Yes, they're Christmas cards, but the paintings are really about the wider winter season: the changing light, cold weather, snow and the wildlife that continues to bring life and colour into our gardens and countryside.

Robins are such a small bird, yet they carry an enormous amount of meaning for many people.

For some they're simply part of the British garden.

For others they're a reminder of someone loved and remembered.

And sometimes they're just a cheerful little visitor appearing on a cold winter morning.

That's what I wanted this collection to capture.

Final Thoughts

Creating Winter Companions, Winter Wonder, Winter Awakening and Winter Perch has allowed me to combine my current love of painting birds with a more traditional seasonal collection.

Whether you choose to send one as a Christmas card, display one of the A4 prints in your home, give one as a thoughtful gift or own one of the original watercolours, I hope these robins bring a little warmth to the colder months.

The full collection of cards, prints and original paintings is available now from LeeBB Art.
