What Makes a Good Photo?
A clear reference photograph is one of the most important parts of creating a successful watercolour pet portrait. Good-quality images help me see the features, colouring, markings and expression that make your pet recognisable.
For the best results, try to choose photographs that are:
- Clear and in focus
- Taken in good natural light where possible
- Close enough to show the face, eyes and important markings
- Taken at your pet’s eye level rather than looking down from above
- Free from heavy filters, strong shadows or artificial lighting
- True to your pet’s natural colouring
You are welcome to send several photographs, especially if different images show useful details such as coat colour, markings or expression.
If you are unsure which photograph will work best, send me a selection and I can help identify the strongest reference for your portrait.
