Spring at LeeBB Art

How the Season Shapes the Work I Create

Spring isn’t just a change in weather — it’s a shift in how I work as an artist. The longer days, softer light, and renewed activity in the countryside all influence what happens in the studio.

At LeeBB Art, spring is a season of observation and response. It shapes subject matter, colour choices, and the quiet moments I’m drawn to paint. This time of year naturally leans towards artwork that feels lighter, calmer, and rooted in growth.

Spring as an Artistic Influence

From an artistic perspective, spring encourages a different pace. Winter is reflective and inward-looking, but spring gently pulls attention back outdoors. Colours return, life stirs, and the landscape begins to feel active again.

In my work, that often translates to:

  • Softer, fresher colour palettes

  • More open compositions

  • A greater sense of calm and balance

  • Subject matter centred around growth, renewal, and life

Spring doesn’t demand dramatic scenes — it invites subtlety. Many of the paintings created or revisited during this season are about quiet moments, rather than big gestures.

Botanical Collection — Celebrating New Growth

Spring is inseparable from plants and flowers, and this is where my Botanical Collection naturally comes into its own.

These pieces focus on individual blooms — studying their structure, shape, and delicate details. Painting botanicals is a slower, more deliberate process, and spring feels like the perfect time for that kind of careful observation.

Each botanical watercolour is a celebration of:

  • New life

  • Fragility and strength

  • The beauty found in small details

These works suit spring interiors beautifully — kitchens, dining areas, hallways, and spaces that benefit from a fresh, uplifting touch.

Lambing Season Prints — A Symbol of Renewal

Spring in the countryside wouldn’t feel complete without lambing season. It’s one of the clearest signs that the season has truly arrived.

My lambing season prints are inspired by those early spring days spent passing fields dotted with new life. They reflect a time of renewal, care, and optimism — themes that resonate deeply with this season.

These pieces are often chosen by:

  • Countryside lovers

  • Those with farming connections

  • Families looking for warm, gentle artwork

They work wonderfully in living spaces where comfort and warmth are key.

Bird Watercolours — Life Returning to the Landscape

As spring unfolds, birdlife becomes more visible and vocal — and that energy finds its way into my bird watercolour paintings.

Pieces such as Bullfinch and Goldfinch capture moments of stillness within that activity. Birds are wonderful subjects because they embody both fragility and resilience, and spring feels like the moment they truly re-emerge into focus.

Painting birds allows me to explore:

  • Colour in a controlled way

  • Texture through feather detail

  • Personality through posture

These works often appeal to collectors who enjoy nature at close range — small, intimate scenes that reward closer viewing.

Spring in the Studio

In practical terms, spring is when I:

  • Revisit unfinished or paused ideas

  • Experiment gently with techniques

  • Refine rather than rush

  • Let artwork develop at a natural pace

It’s also a time of planning — sketchbooks fill up, references are gathered, and ideas begin to take clearer shape for the months ahead.

Spring doesn’t shout in the studio. It quietly encourages progress.

Art Rooted in the Season

Whether it’s botanicals, wildlife, or countryside scenes, spring influences the tone of my work just as much as the subject matter. Even pieces that aren’t explicitly about spring often carry its sense of balance and renewal.

Everything I create at LeeBB Art is inspired by nature — and spring is one of the clearest reminders of why that connection matters.

Looking Ahead

As the season continues, there will be new pieces and new developments shaped by this time of growth. Spring is about possibility — allowing ideas to emerge naturally and seeing where they lead.

Thank you for continuing to support my work and for sharing in this seasonal journey.
